Top 10 Places to Stay in Prince Edward County

The Royal Hotel

With all the wine you’ll be sampling in Prince Edward County, it’s a good idea to treat yourself to a weekend getaway or stay the night (so no one has to be DD!). Luckily for visitors to The County there are lots of great places to stay scattered throughout the wine region, all of which offer a little something different – from hotels to B&Bs to Airbnbs and everything in between. Here at The County Wine Tours we’ve compiled a list of the best of the best spots to rest after a day of wine tasting in PEC – after all, wine tasting is hard work.

Here are our top 10 suggestions for where to stay in Prince Edward County (PEC):

1) Drake Devonshire

Right in the heart of Wellington, the Drake Devonshire opened in 2014 on the site of the former Devonshire Inn. The County outpost of the popular Toronto hotspot has stayed true to its roots, offering beautifully appointed rooms, a delicious menu (hello brunch!), and special events including paint nights and live music. While staying at the Drake Devonshire is on every County visitor’s wishlist, the boutique hotel only has 11 rooms and two suites, and it’s booked solid most of the year – so call way, way ahead to get a room. If you can’t find a room, drop by for a meal and enjoy the waterfront views (and the killer Caesar).

2) Angeline’s

Angeline’s is a popular choice for visitors to PEC, including Prime Minister Trudeau and his wife Sophie, who stopped by recently on a trip to celebrate her birthday. The inn offers both rooms and cottages depending on your group size, and their on-site restaurant The Hubb Eatery is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

3) The Waring House

The Waring House is a charming hotel in Picton set against a stunning 19th century stone farmhouse. It’s one of the larger venues in The County, and is popular for weddings and events. Our favourite part of the property is The Barley Room pub, which has delicious pub food and local live music most nights of the week.

4) Isaiah Tubbs

Right on the shores of West Lake you’ll find Isaiah Tubbs, which offers private cottages and hotel-style rooms for visitors to The County. This is also one of the larger properties in The County, and is popular for weddings and events. Guests can use their canoes and kayaks during down time from wine tasting, or relax by the outdoor pool that’s open during the summer.

5) Drake Motor Inn

Drake Motor Inn, parked just down the street from Drake Devonshire and Wellington’s stunning lakefront, is a nostalgic nod to the classic roadside motel and the modern traveller’s boutique entry point for exploring The County. The little lodge hosts 12 playful guest rooms and is brimming with curious art and photography installations. ‘‘Woof’ beds are available so your whole family can join this road trip (they are a pet-loving place). 24/7/365, the world’s only Drake vending machine serves guests a most unique, Canadian assortment of quirky shoppables and edibles. This property is an ideal jumping off point for cycling to wineries (perhaps on one of our bicycle wine tours!).

613-339-3338 // 43 Wharf St, Wellington, ON K0K 3L0

6) The Inn at Huff Estates

Huff Estates is one of the largest wineries in The County, and you can stay right on the property in one of their 21. Guests get a free wine tasting and winery tour with your stay (bonus!) and on weekends during the summer you can enjoy live music in the restaurant (which serves delicious pizzas – we tried them for “research” purposes).

613-393-5802 // 2274 County Rd.1 (P.O. Box 300) Bloomfield, ON K0K 1G0

7) The Royal Hotel

Dating back to 1879, The Royal has been lovingly restored by a local family, reimagined for today’s traveller while honouring its strong history in the community. A stone’s throw from picturesque wineries, charming restaurants and idyllic natural attractions, The Royal is the ideal jumping-off point for exploring everything that makes The County special.

8) Lake on the Mountain Resort

Lake on the Mountain is one of our favourite gems in The County – it’s a lake perched 200 feet above the shores of the Bay of Quinte. This property offers beautiful scenic views, and delicious food at The Inn restaurant, or at Miller House (we recommend the charcuterie). Rent one of the resort’s small cottages, or opt to stay in their “House Across the Road” – a beautiful, red-brick house from the late 19th century which offers various rooms and suites. This is also your chance to switch things up from wine to beer by visiting the Lake on the Mountain brewery.

9) The June Motel

This boutique hotel is one of the more hip options in The County. The 16-room Picton hotel has some seriously Insta-worthy decor and they offer guests more than just a room (and more than Good Vibes). Join in on their Saturday morning yoga class, or head to the bar for a wine o’clock happy hour between 5PM and 6PM.

10) The Lakeside Motel

Settle in with Lakeside as your county headquarters, you’ll always have somewhere to regroup and recharge after a full day of exploring the beautiful culture and community of Prince Edward County.
